As a child and young adult, I painted landscapes and seascapes passionately and prolifically. The process and scenery always has had an almost- otherworldly hold on my attention. After a few years away from this artform, I realize it still does today. This collection embodies that same magic of mood and emotion in a medium of pure pigment pastel. It is a privilege and honor to capture the spirit and energy of the natural elements and present its magnificence to you through painting. It is my heart’s desire to capture the protection of the trees, the communication on the the wind, the nurturing of the earth, the purification of water, the transformation of fire and the unlimited potential of metal.
Like the great French Impressionists, my painting technique seeks to express the transient effects of light and color using discreet flecks, dots and dabs to create forms and shapes. This late 19th century method allows me to create harmonizing or contrasting colors and palettes while softening your eye on the subject matter. The elimination of the use of black in the shadows and substituting with contrasting colors allows your eyes to be led in particular paths and directions.
Similar to oil paints, pure pigment pastels have a rich vibrancy and luminosity, making them a perfect medium for this technique. Pastels have a higher pigment concentration than any other medium allowing the artist to manipulate color, tone, and texture creating an illusory depth and magical brilliance.
Each original painting is framed in reclaimed Virginian barn wood with museum quality non-glare glass for table top display or ready to hang. The frames are handmade so texture, wood grain and sizes may vary slightly.
